Places To Visit in Kerala

Kerala which is famous for its greenery and spices is one of the best tourist destinations in India. Also, known as God’s own country for its cultural and regional values. According to Hindu Mythology, Once Lord Parsurama who also said to be an Avatar of Vishnu threw his axe from Kanyakumari towards the north, a land arose from the ocean which is now known as Kerala. Britishers also showed interest in this place because of Kerala’s spices. Today it is also known as the Spice capital of India. Let us discuss the other side which is the tourist attraction.

1) Alleppey - Houseboats and backwaters.






Alleppey is also known as Alappuzha, famous for its calm water lake and houseboats. Lord Curzon termed Alleppey as “Venice of the east”. The fascinating backwaters in Alleppey along with green paddy fields and palm trees, make it the best backwater destination in Kerala. You can stay overnight in the houseboat and enjoy the ambiance at the houseboats. If you move beyond the lake you will find an amazing lighthouse.

How to reach?

·        Cochin international airport (75km).

·        Alleppey Railway station (within the city limits).

2)Kochi




This Should be first on your list if you are going to visit Kerala. You are unaware, Kochi is also termed as “Queen of the Arabian sea”. The sea route of Kochi is used by the Britishers for trade purposes. An oldest European church that is the saint Francis church located in this city. The church is having remains of a sailor and discoverer Vasco Da Gama. Modern city Kochi also won UN champion of the earth award for setting up solar panels on its Airport.

If you are a lover of food, history, and beaches then Kochi will be a remarkable journey for us. The market of Kochi experiences an aromatic smell of spices all the time. People come here to celebrate Christmas and New year.

·        Ernakulam junction(7km).

3) Wayanad





Wayanad means Land of paddy fields. It is a popular hill station in Kerala, where you can visit throughout the year. The place is also famous for caves, carvings, and stones from Mesolithic to Neolithic ages. Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and it is an adventurous spot also. So, nature lovers pack your bags and ready to explore.

·        Calicut International Airport (65km).

·        Kozhikode Railway Station (110 km).

4) Poovar Island



Waking up with the sound of the sea and along with the floating cottage. This island is located between the Arabian Sea and the Neyyar River. At one place an estuary formed here because the beach, island, river, and sea meet each other. Sea sand makes water Golden and is home to various flora and fauna. The night view is amazing.

How to reach?

·        Thiruvananthapuram  Airport (30 km).

·        Thiruvananthapuram Station (27 km).

5) Kozhikode/Calicut.



It is a port city, where Vasco Da Gama landed the first time in India in 1498. There are the history and stories in the air of Kozhikode. The place is also known for its temples, beaches, parks, outdoor activities, landmarks, and is equally famous for its authentic delicacies like Biryanis and Halwas.

·        Air: Calicut International Airport (28.2 km).

·        Rail: Kozhikode Railway Station (2.4 km).

Kerala is one of the best tourist destinations in the world. This is mainly due to beautiful beaches, the laid-back welcome that greets you every time, wildlife sanctuaries, national parks, and heritage sites.
